^{"Hannell scratched his head, surprised and confused. There were thousands of lives in the Slums like his, but why was she so upset? Sure, he didn't enjoy his hardships and the Envy's curse was a cruel jape, but sadness was the second last thing he expected from her.
The first was the fact that she even cared.
But as rainwater ran down her face like rivulets of tears, Hannell thought he could see how vulnerable she actually was. Despite her thick armour of steel, she was still a young woman no older than he was, with anguish in her blinking eyes.
Then he began to understand. Her life had nothing but honour, glory and duty, the three standing pillars of the Knighthood that she had dedicated her every hour living up to. Apart from Sir Cedric, Hannell was probably the first person she had properly known in her whole life. That was probably why she was so sad to see her only friend suffering ills. With nothing else for her to experience, she clung onto the only thing she'd had as if it was all there was in the world.
He pitied her. She had nothing for him to envy. He might have had a hard life, but it was still better than not having a life at all."}
